University of Oxford – Manor Road (First Floor) – Breakout Area

Company Sector: Education – University

Location: Oxford

Reason/Aim of the Project:

The Department were keen to improve the working, study and social environment for their students and staff.

An existing space that was mainly populated previously by desks was identified as an area that was to be redesigned to be a more flexible working environment. This would allow students to work in a more informal space either collaboratively or on their own.

The client identified a range of products from the manufacturer Orangebox who are one of the market leaders in breakout and agile working. The priority in the brief was to create an environment for students and staff, that ensures that they feel valued and provides a flexible and welcoming environment.

Orangebox and Elm proposed a selection of products in the informal area and the canteen area of soft seating and other breakout furniture. We also provided banquette seating for groups, in the canteen area. Varying the dining options with a mix of dinning and poseur height tables and stools, this we believed .provided a flexible space for all the students and staff.

For the final details and to bind the scheme together, we specified the furniture and products to enhance the impact, carefully selecting the finishes.

The design team produced 2D space plans, Colour and materials scheme, 3D conceptual to sign off visuals and Setting out plans.

Orangebox, Elm and the client worked closely together to deliver a successful project that has been positively received by the students and the staff.
